All-female idol group AKB48 announced yesterday that they will be launching their first overseas sister group, JKT48, in Indonesia later this year. Announced at AKB48′s latest handshake event for their newest song “Flying Get” in Chiba, Japan, AKB48 producer Yasushi Akimoto will serve as the chief producer for the overseas group as well.
Residents of the Indonesia now have a chance to audition for the first generation of the new idol group. In mid-October, finalists will receive lessons with the final group appearing at the end of the year.
Aside from AKB48, and now JKT48, there are four other spin-off groups in Akihabara (SDN48), Nagoya (SKE48), Osaka (NMB48) and Fukuoka (HKT48).
