In the same vein as last year’s live action Rurouni Kenshin film, an adaptation of Kiki’s Delivery Service is currently in production. Made famous by the 1989 Studio Ghibli film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, everyone’s favorite witch moonlighting as a delivery girl actually has her origins in a book series penned by Eiko Kadono. This modern take on Kiki is rumored to revolve around the first two novels in the series. Takashi Shimizu, famous for directing the Japanese version of The Grudge, is helming the production, which is slated for a 2014 release.
