Yui Horie: the 17 year-old Wonder?
by Jason Young
Or at least that’s what she’d like to tell you if her opening monologue, in English, was any indication. Famous for voicing anime characters such as Naru Narusegawa (Love Hina) and Ayu Tsukumiya (Kanon), she came to Anime Expo courtesy of NIS America to help promote the American release of Toradora! Although half of her panel was devoted to showing the first episode of Toradora to American audiences, she had a few chances to answer a couple of questions posed to her from fans at the NIS Booth.
Justin, New Jesery: “Why did she become voice actress?”
She watched Dirty Pair when she was a little kid and wanted to do what they did, so she grew her hair out so she can be like Yuri.
Tiffany, Chicago:” What is the most difficult part about being a voice actress?”
Capturing the feelings of characters while trying to match the flip flap.
David, Irvine: “Which of her characters that she’s played most resembles herself?”
Naru Hisagawa because she has difficulty revealing herself.
Jeff, San Diego: “How would you interact with Taiga and Yugi if you were Minori?”
She wouldn’t back down, as she’s a fearless woman. Minori is a bright character, and yui claims she has some of those characteristics
Maria, San Antonio: “I want to be a voice actress, can you give advice?”
Be healthy and observe things around you; those experiences will help you act. Most importantly, don’t get sick.
Ellen “How do you come up with other songs?”
First, she does the theme then tempo. Second, let the magic happen and just “let it go.”
