AX’10: Danny Choo Panel 2

Anime Expo 2010 Guest of Honor, Danny Choo, had his second of two panels on Day 4 of Anime Expo. During his panel, Danny showed extended footage from his new TV show, Culture:Japan, which aims to share Japanese culture with the world. He also showed footage of the upcoming anime, Black★Rock Shooter.

The panel started with Danny finishing up some messages that he didn’t have time to share at his first panel. These messages touched on the subject of how life is too short, and that you should live life as if you only have six months left to live. Meaning, that you should do the things you want to do now, instead of later. The messages that Danny Choo has said at his two panels during Anime Expo should be seriously taken to heart. Life is indeed too short, you only have a certain amount of time to live and like Danny said, “You never know when your life will end” and “Not all of us will die of old age”. So everyone really should listen to these wise words that Danny has said, take them to heart and act upon them. Live your life how you want, don’t wait to do the things that you want to do.

After finishing up his words of advice, Danny then showed us all some footage from the upcoming anime, BlackRock Shooter. The anime was inspired by the song, BlackRock Shooter, by Ryo, based off the artwork of artist, huke. The anime is schedule for a July 24, 2010 release date, so be sure to look for it! After showing some footage from BlackRock Shooter, Danny showed us some extended footage from his new TV show, Culture:Japan, which aims to share Japanese culture with the world. The footage from the show featured people’s room from all over the world, showing off their anime and Japanese related goodies. Danny also filmed his trip to a Japanese high school for the show, where he went to various classes such as mathematics, shodo, judo, computing, and even lunchtime (where he received a bento from a student). After some footage from the high school, Danny forwarded the video a bit to show us footage from Good Smile Company, the Japanese figure making company, to show how the figures are made. During his time there, he was also shown some of the new prototype figures such as a Saber Alter prototype and some of the new BlackRock Shooter figures.

Danny finished his second panel of the convention by taking pictures with his fellow fans/readers. The picture will be used for Danny to randomly select someone from the audience and give away a BlackRock Shooter figma to them when it is released. Danny Choo was an amazing guest to have at Anime Expo 2010; He was extremely friendly, and incredibly fun to talk with. Before his panel, I had a little time to sit and talk with him once again.

  • Taylor: “Did you enjoy Anime Expo?”
  • Danny: “Yes, very much so.”
  • Taylor: “How does Anime Expo compare to conventions over in Japan?”
  • Danny: “I’ve actually been asked this a lot; It’s actually very similar in ways to conventions over there.”
  • Taylor: “Would you want to come to Anime Expo again?”
  • Danny: “I would love to.”

I would personally like to thank Danny Choo for coming to Anime Expo 2010, it was awesome having him at the convention, and even more fun to sit and talk with him. Hope to see you at the convention again some day.
