Magi, the manga about Aladdin, Ali Baba and other characters from traditional folk tale collection Arabian Nights, is making its way across the Pacific thanks to an acquisition by VIZ Media. VIZ will be adding the series to their Shonen Sunday imprint, which also includes titles like Case Closed and Hayate the Combat Butler.
The first volume will be in stores on August 13 and retails for $9.99 in the U.S. and $12.99 in Canada.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Deep within the deserts lie the mysterious Dungeons, vast stores of riches open for the taking by anyone lucky enough to find them and brave enough to venture into the depths from where few have ever returned. Plucky young adventurer Aladdin means to find the Dungeons and their riches, but Aladdin may be just as mysterious as the treasures he seeks. Together with the genie Hugo and his friend, Ali Baba, Aladdin sets out to find his fortune in the depths of the endless dunes…
Magi was adapted into an anime in Japan late last year and simulcasted on Crunchyroll. No plans have been announced for a DVD or Blu-ray release of the anime in the U.S., but the acquisition of the manga makes it a closer possibility.
