Marvel Entertainment and animation studio Madhouse have teamed up once again, this time to bring about an anime film starring the ever-popular Armored Avenger, Iron Man. Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore will be hitting store shelves on both DVD and Blu-ray on April 16, just a couple of weeks before the live-action Iron Man 3 starring Robert Downey, Jr. makes its ways to theaters nationwide.
Rise of the Technovore is an animated take on writer Matt Fraction’s Invincible Iron Man story line from a few years ago which featured Tony Stark going head-to-head against Ezekiel Stane, the son of the late Obadiah Stane (the Iron Monger, as seen in the first live-action Iron Man). Ezekiel in the comics uses Stark’s technology against him and orchestrates a global attack not only against Stark himself, but against his industrial empire.
Rise of the Technovore shows shades of Stane’s attack, with a terrorist attack orchestrated by a mysterious enemy. The film also incorporates parts of another story line which saw Iron Man on the run from the government and enlisting the help of his friends to escape. In Technovore, however, Stark winds up enlisting The Punisher to help him out (which is a little out of character for the guy, to be honest).
In any case, Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore looks like it’ll be an interesting ride. The trailer was released a few months ago when the film was first announced. And it’s more than fitting that The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus will be taking on vocal duties as The Punisher. Check out the box art for the release below.
