Shonen Jump to Go Digital for Only .54 Per Issue

by Jason Young, staff editor, Inside AX- Anime Expo

A long time ago, fifty-four cents used to be a damn large amount of money. You could buy you a pack of gum, a Reese’s Pieces peanut butter cup or a non-biodegradable taco from Taco Bell for change you could pick up on the street; or steal from your little brother. Unfortunately, just like the many moon phases in Persona, times change. However my fellow penny-pinching anime fans, fret not.

VIZ Media has heard your calls for cheap manga for the 99% of you out there and has decided to start selling Shonen Jump weekly and digitally, rather than its old decrepit monthly format. So what does this mean for you? Lots!

Starting January 30, 2012 the new Shonen Jump Alpha will include:

  • Over 4x the number of issues per year, one per week bringing it to an unbridled 48 issues!
  • 92% more manga, with over 480 pages of new monthly content.
  • The freshest translated manga, only two weeks after they’ve been released in Japan.
  • A cheaper cost at $.54 per issue with an annual online subscription.
  • Access to your favorite manga from anywhere, including any iOS-compatible devices or web browsers.
